Miguel received his degree at the College of Charleston before joining the DeLeon-Pennell Laboratory in 2019. Miguel expertise is in surgical models of cardiovascular disease and physiologic techniques to determine cardiac function.

Alexa graduated from Clemson University before taking a gap year to do research at Columbia University and joining the graduate program in 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina. Alexa's research project is focused on how PTSD is altering the immune system thereby increasing risk of cardiovascular pathology.

Shaoni graduated from Clemson University before being accepted to the MD/PhD program at the Medical University of South Carolina. Shaoni's research project is focused on determining the influence of age on the immune system and cardiac healing after a myocardial infarction.

Tommy graduated from Clemson University before joining the graduate program in 2023 at the Medical University of South Carolina. Tommy's project is focused on mapping the temporal profile of CD8+ T-cell phenotypes post-MI. Tommy will begin his service as an officer in the military after graduation.

Amber graduated from North Carolina State University in Spring 2022 and joined the graduate program at the Medical University of South Carolina in Fall 2022. Amber's research project investigates the relationship between cardiovascular and gastrointestinal pathology in the context of PTSD. 

Kim is a recent graduate from the College of Charleston. Kim has volunteered in the lab since 2023 and became a Research Intern in the Fall of 2024.
